” When My servants ask you, ‘ Prophet’, about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond “with obedience” to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way”

How should the believer perform Dua?

The Messenger of Allah would do the following to perform Dua:

  1. Starting with praising Allah.
  2.  Praying for the messenger of Allah.
  3.  Asking for forgiveness for sins.
  4.  Asking Allah Almighty by His most beautiful Names and supreme Attributes for the good in life and the hereafter.

The Prophet’s most frequent Dua was:

“O God, bring us blessings in this world, blessings in the next, and guard us from the punishment of hell.”

{Bukhari and Muslim}

What is the importance of Dua?

There are many reasons why you should perform Dua all the time:

1. Dua is the weapon of the believer:

Dua is one of the most powerful and effective acts of worship a human being can engage in. It affirms a person’s belief in The One True God, Allah (SWT), and it shuns all forms of idolatry or polytheism.

2. Dua is essentially submission to Allah

Dua is essentially submission to God and a manifestation of a person’s need for Allah. It means that the Muslim asks Almighty God for His help, mercy, forgiveness, and whatever goodness the Muslim seeks when they lift their hands to supplicate Almighty Allah.

3. Feeling the connection to Almighty Allah

Dua enables the Muslim to build a strong connection to Almighty Allah and feel the closeness of Allah to His servants since the Muslim seeks refuge in Allah through sincere Dua.

God Almighty says in the Noble Qur’an:

” When My servants ask you, O Prophet, about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond “with obedience” to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way”

Quran 2:186

4.  Attaining the pleasure of Almighty Allah

The pleasure of Allah can be attained through Dua because Allah commands Muslims to supplicate to Him. Hence, Almighty Allah becomes pleased with Muslims when they obey His commands.
